Boy Meets Girl Meg Cabot 9780330418874 Books

Here's one lesson I have learned: in fiction, a woman who has a rocky relationship with her family sends up a red flag. In this book by Meg Cabot, Director of Human Resources Amy does not get along with her parents or her siblings (sirens in my head start wailing at that detail). Her friends are bigoted sorority sisters from college. The leading man in the story, Mitch, makes a funny remark to her: "lavaliere that." Amy is a character it's fun to dislike. She is engaged to Mitch's older brother, Stuart. He, too, is fun to dislike. Stuie gets worse and worse as the story progresses, until his only ally is his mother. The Hertzog family dysfunction is funny, to a point. When it interrupts the romantic flow of the plot one too many times, I want to call out the editor.

In this book, the unlikable characters take over the plot. The heroine, Kate, is homeless, broke and eventually jobless -- she's lovely but her situation is not a barrel of laughs. Her love life is kind of a shambles. You want the best for her, but the turn in her fortunes is slow to arrive. It's a fun book, but not super fun.

Boy Meets Girl Meg Cabot 9780330418874 Books Reviews

Good
Cute and easy summer read. I enjoyed the tie in with the previous book, The Boy Next Door. Looking forward to the final book in the series.
Yeah, that's right!
This book is so funny. And so easy to read. Loved it from start.
Kate's life hasn't been all that good lately, for starters she is crashing at her best friend's couch. Her boss hates her- the TOD or Amy - and she has just been forced to fire Ida Lopez though she knows is wrong. Enter Mitch Hertzong, brother of Stuart Hertzong - TOD's boyfriend. Mitch is a lawyer, enough said for Kate not to like him, problem is, she does like him!
Love the Emailing back and forth. Oh, and don't miss the IM-converstion between Jen and Tim, that totally cracked me up!
I have read many of this author's works and enjoyed them all. This particular book was no exception. I did think it was I interesting that the story was told through emails, phone conversations, memos, and IM conversations. While some may not enjoy this unconventional format, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I can't wait to read the rest of this trilogy!
I have yet to be disappointed by anything Meg Cabot writes. Yes her writing is predictable but that aside her writing is witty. The conversation flows naturally and it is not an uncomfortable read at all even though it is not a one on one read as is usually written by authors it is all through communications and relaying of the previous conversations. Even in the set up it is still natural and comfortable and you just breeze through the books. The characters are fun and relatable in their quirks, personalities and issues within reason. I always find that Meg rights for her readers as well as herself.
I loved this book! It's unique way of telling the story all through emails is wonderful...I especially loved a "mystery murder" thrown into the mix.
Easy, fun read but not as good as Every Boy's Got One. I really wanted to like Katie more but I couldn't. I wanted to root for her and lawyer boy even more but I didn't really feel a spark between them. I think this one would have benefitted from being a hybrid novel where we see the characters note raft but then also get the emails as extra info.
