Snafu was such a great ending to the Forte series! (but I hated to see it end) I found myself very emotional at times while reading this book. In the first two books you felt like you got to know Forte and really like this guy....but you find out in Snafu that you really didn't know him. You didn't really know the facts of what exactly happened to bring on his pain and demons.... and it's heartbreaking to read because you really care about him. And then there's the ending... what can I say?? Loved this whole series!Product details

Snafu The Forte Suspense Series of New Orleans Volume 3 Glen C Allison 9780971810556 Books Reviews
A retired Navy Seal who protects and rescues endangered children, along with his dedicated and dangerous team of specialists, work to unravel the link between a pair of bizarre kidnappings - including one that hits particularly close to home for Al Forte, the book's protagonist. That's the premise behind SNAFU, which is apparently the third entry in the Al Forte series. Don't worry, though; if (like me), the series is new to you, you'll be able to jump in without much difficulty. SNAFU is pretty fun pulp; the characters are manly and hyper-capable, the villain incredibly vile and cunning, the action sequences taut...in other words, it's a perfectly serviceable little thriller. Allison's work at character depth never really did that much for me; while he does an okay job setting up his characters and their pasts, it always feels a bit perfunctory and unengaging - in other words, it feels like the character work in an action movie necessary for the plot, but not really used much beyond that. I feel like I'm spending a lot of time grumbling about SNAFU, and I don't mean to. No, I don't think some of the dialogue quite works, and no, some of the backstory doesn't quite work for me. But I enjoyed the book quite a bit on a purely "fun" level, and I thought Allison's plotting was always interesting and genuinely surprising a couple of times, especially in a couple of revelations that come out near the end. SNAFU doesn't stand with the best entries in the genre, but Allison has created an interesting hero and a solid premise that kept me quite entertained and involved all the way to the end.
For years I have been a friend of Glen C. Allison; now, I'm a fan.
Glen has created an incredible series with New Orleans bodyguard Al Forte, a former Navy SEAL. The action continues in "Snafu," the third installment in the series.
"I'm a little mousey, mousey, mousey."
How can you not like a man who rescues children? In this case, Forte is asked to find the child of the man who murdered his wife and what he finds is a plot so thick that it goes all the way back to tying the hands of the governor of Louisiana.
Everyone loves New Orleans - ghost stories, old history, gothic architecture, unusual people, water, darkness, smoky rooms - and "Forte" creates a sense of this place. A few times I felt smothered and thought I might need to step outside on the back porch to get some fresh air.
Following the first two novels in the series, "Snafu" delves deeper into Forte's troubled past and bruised psyche. Forte is messed up, but he tries hard to make it right. He's a hero, but I think there is more. Forte is not cowardly, but jumps into situations, even to the point of making me think he is sometimes on a suicide mission, which - considering his past - could very well be the case. But he doesn't act alone. Forte works with a great team. I love the characters. The cast is there because what they are doing is important to them, not because they are working a job or filling an author's function. What they are hoping to achieve is worth dying for.
"I'm a little mousey, mousey, mousey."
"Running through the housey, housey, housey."
"Snafu" is anything but predictable including a most unexpected ending; yet, there was no other way to end it. Some of it reminds me of a Western with the troubled hero riding off into the sunset at the end. Only, in this case, the man has yellow eyes. No doubt, he'll be back.
Until next time, read like someone is burning the books!

Snafu was anything but predictable! I couldn't put it down. Exceptionally good story lines especially after having read Miscue and Net Blue.
Compelling from the opening. Another excellent read by Mr. Allison, who maintains a fast pace with his characters, and develops each of them to the fullest!
SNAFU was fast paced and exciting, but what I liked best was it gave me a more in depth look at Forte, the man. He seems like a cross between James Lee Burke's Robicheaux, with a dark past, and a touch of Janet Evanovich's Ranger, mysterious and cool. Looking forward to volume 4!
I'm not even finished reading this one yet but it has already become my favorite. The further development of Forte just keeps getting better. He is a tarnished and reluctant hero with a huge heart.
Snafu was such a great ending to the Forte series! (but I hated to see it end) I found myself very emotional at times while reading this book.
