Awesome story with dangers of dating, new love, betrayal, jealousy, the joys of branching out, and of course HOCKEY! River is big man on campus, hockey god and Adonis (not that he knows it), that is what everyone else sees at least. Due to media problems used to pressure him into signing with a NHL team, he gets the student paper to assign a non-sports writer to do an exclusive exposé to improve his image. Enter Lane, out and mostly proud, sex and relationship columnist, and firm believer all jocks are meat headed homophobes. Despite their differences both men find hidden depths in the other and become friends. Of course some really dumb decisions get made (mostly when Lane and alcohol are involved), that come back with bite just as Lane and River are exploring their connection. Loved this book had a hard time putting it down even though lime Lane I'm not a fan of sports or jocks (gotta love high school)! There were a lot of character relationships from the team, River and Lane, Lane and Devon, of course Devon and Jono plus everyone and Alan that created a ton of side stories that all wove eventually into the main storyline and kept the characters full of doubts, insecurities, and conflicting emotions. Really a very well written, engaging, and entertaining story, one for my favorites pile to read again and again!Tags : Break Away - Kindle edition by Van Barrett. Break Away edition by Van Barrett Romance eBooks Reviews
There's nothing more than I enjoy than good book. From the very chapter I was hooked. Love this book. Cannot wait to read more from this author .
Get ready to be brought into the minds of two college students. A hockey player and a psych major who are both very different. Yet opposites attract and the author conveys a great, light hearted story. The characters are extremely relatable and I'd definitely recommend you read it
Absolutely loved this book! What a wonderful romantic story. Romance on ice, doesn't even cover it. The characters are sexy as heck (hell), funny, lots of drama and this definitely a must read, you will not put it down. So Many Thanks, Honey Bee🐝📚💙🎶
PS This is one of my favorite Authors, he knows how to keep you turning those hot pages, so don't miss it!🎶
Very good m/m romance. The sex was graphically described and easy to visualize. The two main characters were likeable and different from each other making the plot move along with the reader's interest. The author is not a great writer, but a good storyteller.
Another great book by Van Barrett. It took along time to get to the good stuff but really the background to the storey was well worth it. I found it really interesting and couldn't put it down. When the love interest really started to shine, WOW. Very steamy. I loved the slow burn of this storey, the ups and downs. The character development was fantastic. You won't regret reading this book.
Van has another hit on his hands. UND star hockey athlete River is unfulfilled in his current relationship with Cass. He is a busy man with school and being Captain of the hockey team and all that's involved with the sport. Yet he desires more from a relationship. He sets out and meets Lane who is writer for the school newspaper. During their interaction River discovers so much more about himself. Can he trust and love the one person he truly makes a connection with? Read this book and you will discover so much more.
Lane is a psychology major/journalism minor and he writes anonymously as a sex columnist giving advice to other students. In this column he's very open about being gay and what sex acts he relishes. River is the star athlete at the school, and there is no doubt that this hockey star shines brightly. He's had one intimate relationship in his life that ended about a year ago.
I liked both River and Lane, but I did have a few issues with Lane and his love of sharing intimate information (not just in his column). There's some angst and plenty of drama. River and Lane weren't isolated, river's hockey team and Lane's best friend were around regularly which brought a lot of depth and interest.
The book was long, which I was happy about, I enjoyed all of it and would have been happy to have even more.
