Before the war in Crimea, Garrett was the gossip of the ton, chasing every woman with a lightskirt. Returning from the war, Garret was a different man after seeing so many of his men senselessly die on the battlefield. He decided to go into society and attend the Duke of Hammond's party. The scandalmongers were still waggling their tongues. Garrett decided that he didn't belong with the ton, and left to return to his home in the country.

Alex overheard two men arguing. One of the men wanted more money to murder Garrett, the Earl of Kendall. Alex warned Garrett as he was leaving the Duke of Hammond's party that he overheard someone plotting to murder him. Garrett wanted more information and pushed Alex into the carriage. As the carriage was leaving Duke Hammond's estate and turning a corner, a loud gunshot terrified the horses. The carriage tipped over and Alex bumped her head and passed out. Garrett checked on Alex and discovered a man's wig with blonde hair coming loose from under it. Garrett was stunned to find out Alex is a woman.

Garrett had an idea that Alexandra came from good breeding and why is she running from her Uncle. He's going to keep her close and offered Lady Alexandra a larger sum of money if she would assist him with the investigation of who's trying to have him murdered.

The two main characters Garrett and Alexandra had fantastic chemistry. The secondary characters, Garrett's sister Kit, her husband Brandon, and the Earl of Warren, played a big role in finding the person who plotted the murder against Garrett.

For the Love of a Soldier was an extraordinary read.

Thoroughly enjoyed this captivating new book by first-time author, Victoria Morgan! Grab it for your summer poolside reading and you won't be disappointed!
This is the first historical romance that I have read and I absolutely loved it. I can't wait to read her second book.
A well written and enjoyable READ. I hope to read more from this author. I definitely recommend this book for those who enjoy romance .
I loved reading Victoria Morgan's debut novel. I have read many Regency and Victorian romances in the last 20 years and I do not believe I have ever read about a hero from the Crimean War and the Charge of the Light Brigade. The mixture of history and romance was perfectly done and the author has clearly done her research. Bits of research were expertly weaved throughout the story so you never felt that you were getting a history lesson. The characters were wonderfully developed and I found myself laughing and crying, the true test of a great romance novel! I cannot wait until her next book comes out later this year.
It's my first historical romance and I loved it. The action, the smart humor, the courage... I found the story fascinating and the characters so alive! It's intriguing and well balanced. Bravo to Mrs Morgan for her first book D
This book had a believable fall into love, but there were a lot of historical inconsistencies in this book that began to bother me the further I read. It's an okay fluff novel, but if you're a stickler for accurate Regency-era portrayals, this book isn't for you.
In many ways this was excellent. The characters were interesting and believable, the writing was fine. The problem is that there was an interesting set-up for the plot that just sort of fizzled out. The heroine, disguised as a young man, overhears the villain plotting to kill the hero and gets a look at the villain. She warns him, and he carries her off to his country estate (even after discovering that he is a she), hoping she will remember more or at least be able to identify the villain. But she doesn't and she can't. and it doesn't seem to matter.
I'll try this author again, but after reading a rave review, I had been hoping for more.
